His Excellency President of Customs Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa chaired the Kingdom of Bahrain delegation in the 59th regional meeting of Directors of Customs in North Africa, the Near East and the Middle East held at the Arab League in Egypt. 
During the meeting, a number of topics on the agenda related to customs affairs in the region and the relationship with the World Customs Organization were discussed.
The Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization presented a detailed report on the organisation’s modernisation plan, during which the future work strategy and institutional governance of the World Customs Organization were discussed. The Regional Office for Capacity Building and the Regional Information Liaison Office also reviewed a brief presentation of the periodic report of the two offices and what has been achieved during the past year.
Meanwhile, HE Customs President took part in the 44th meeting of the Arab Directors-General of Customs that was held at the Secretariat General of the Arab League.
The meeting tackled many customs issues related to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and discussed the obstacles presented to achieve the Arab Customs Union and facilitate trade movement between Arab countries, in addition to completing some Arab customs agreements that support the Arab Customs Union, such as the Arab Customs Cooperation Agreement and the Agreement to Regulating transit transport between member states.
